Prove it in the field
Field Robotics & Reliability Engineer
Turn prototypes into dependable field systems through deployment discipline, diagnostics, and closed-loop reliability work.
Apply nowThe mandate
Own the gap between a working prototype and a machine that repeatedly completes field shifts. Plan deployments, diagnose failures, manage configuration and spares, and turn operating evidence into reliability improvements across the platform.
First-year outcomes
Evidence the role is working.
- 01
A repeatable deployment, preflight, charging, cleaning, transport, and closeout process.
- 02
Measured uptime, intervention, recovery, and failure-category reporting.
- 03
A field incident and root-cause workflow that closes the loop with engineering owners.
- 04
Service procedures, diagnostic tools, and spares that reduce mean time to recovery.
What you will own
- Plan and run field deployments with operations, growers, and the engineering team.
- Own preflight checks, configuration control, logs, incident records, and shift closeout.
- Diagnose cross-domain faults and restore safe operation under time pressure.
- Create service documentation, diagnostic tooling, spare strategy, and technician training.
- Run reliability reviews and verify corrective actions in subsequent field work.
- Represent operator evidence in design reviews and prevent recurring avoidable failures.
What we are looking for
- Has deployed and debugged robots, vehicles, or industrial systems outside the engineering lab.
- Can separate a symptom from root cause across software, electrical, and mechanical layers.
- Turns repeated failures into tests, design changes, spares, and operating procedures.
- Communicates calmly with operators while the system is down.
- Uses reliability metrics to prioritize engineering work.
The field reality
The environment is part of the design.
This role starts when the prototype meets the harvest schedule. Expect field setup before work begins, rapid diagnosis when a machine stops, disciplined incident records, and travel among Central Coast operating sites.
- Field engineering, test engineering, fleet operations, or sustaining engineering.
- Robotics, automotive, aerospace, industrial automation, or heavy equipment.
- Failure analysis, FRACAS, reliability growth, service tooling, or configuration management.
- Spanish language ability and experience working alongside agricultural crews.
